Basketball Recap: Devin Murphy's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Maryvale over Cesar Chavez

Maryvale lost against Cesar Chavez back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Maryvale Panthers fell to the Cesar Chavez Champions 67-62. The Panthers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Maryvale lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Devin Murphy, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten boards. Murphy has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more rebounds the last 16 times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Abram Moreno Salazar, who went 6 of 7 on his way to 15 points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Cesar Chavez's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lex Clontz, who went 11 of 22 en route to 32 points. Another player making a difference was Gabriel Briones, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine boards.

Maryvale now has a losing record at 7-8. As for Cesar Chavez, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 7-8.

Maryvale will take on Kofa at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Maryvale is facing Kofa at the right time seeing as Kofa is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Cesar Chavez, they will square off against Dobson at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
