Softball Recap: Duarte Wins Going Away Against Azusa

While Duarte put up plenty of runs on Monday, the same can't be said for Azusa. Duarte was the clear victor by a 13-0 margin over Azusa. The Falcons have beaten the Aztecs the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Aztecs has come to flipping the script.

Alyssa Garcia made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Duarte got a big performance out of Daniella Matiarena, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Crystal Moran, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Duarte was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .636. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.

Duarte's record now sits at 10-3. As for Azusa, they dropped their record down to 3-6 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Duarte will square off against Monrovia at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Monrovia has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.86 runs per game on average), something Duarte will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Azusa, they will face off against Baldwin Park at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
