Recap: East Columbus Gators vs. Perquimans Pirates
It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the East Columbus Gators can now relate to. They took a serious blow against Perquimans on Friday, falling 40-6. East Columbus' loss continues a unfortunate trend for the squad, making it four in a row.
Perquimans' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Braylon Knapp led the charge by throwing for 255 yards and three touchdowns while completing 72.2% of his passes. Ataviyon White made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
East Columbus has yet to win a match on the road this season, leaving them with a 2-9 record. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 9-1 Wilson Prep and 9-2 Whiteville (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 70.2% over those games). As for Perquimans, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-3.
East Columbus does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Perquimans will head out on the road to face off against Lakewood at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Lakewood is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
