Softball Game Preview: El Modena Vanguards vs. Pacifica Mariners

The El Modena Vanguards will head out to challenge the Pacifica Mariners at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. The last three games El Modena has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Things were looking good for El Modena after they put the first run on the board on Friday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Pacifica by a score of 10-8. Vanguards fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Mariners since Friday.

For Pacifica's part, the team relied heavily on Leyla Ayres, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. Those three runs gave Ayres a new career-high. Sanaiyah Cleland also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.

The win made it two in a row for Pacifica and bumps their season record up to 14-8. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.5 runs across that stretch. As for El Modena, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-11 record this season.

Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. El Modena hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .333. However, it's not like Pacifica struggles in that department as they've averaged .327. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
