Softball Recap: Hays Takes a Loss

Hays extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 4-3 in the process. They lost 13-7 to the Great Bend Panthers. That's two games in a row now that the Indians have lost by exactly six runs.

As for Great Bend, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 15-3. Considering they have won ten games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

For Great Bend's part, Chayla Prendergast spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and five unearned) runs on five hits.

At the plate, DeShawnna Bryant and Alyssa McCauley did most of the damage at the plate: Bryant went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base, while McCauley went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. McCauley is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now got three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Katherine Mazouch, who went 3-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Hays does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Great Bend, they will face off against Garden City at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Panthers will need to watch out since the Buffaloes have now posted at least ten runs every time they've taken the field this season.
