Baseball Recap: West Ottawa Starts off Right with Win over Montague

West Ottawa took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 9-3 margin over the Montague Wildcats. The Panthers have beaten the Wildcats the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Wildcats has come to flipping the script.

Collin Roelofs looked comfortable as he struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Connor Knapp, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (two). Solomon Wegmeyer was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: West Ottawa beat Montague by a score of 4-3 later that day.
