Baseball Game Preview: Starkville Christian Cougars vs. Newton County Academy Generals

The Starkville Christian Cougars will take on the Newton County Academy Generals at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Starkville Christian proved they can win big last Monday (they won by ten) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past Tuscaloosa Home Educators 6-5.

Meanwhile, Newton County Academy entered their tilt with Laurel Christian on Thursday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victors by a 16-3 margin over the Lions. The result was nothing new for the Generals, who have now won five matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.

Cooper Savell was a standout: he scored two runs while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits he has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Gaines Boyd, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and four RBI.

Newton County Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They are 5-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Starkville Christian's victory bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Newton County Academy, their win bumped their record up to 6-7.
