Softball Recap: Mesa Ridge Grizzlies vs. Sierra Stallions

While Mesa Ridge put up plenty of runs on Wednesday, the same can't be said for Sierra. The Mesa Ridge Grizzlies were the clear victor by a 15-0 margin over the Sierra Stallions. Considering the Grizzlies have won nine contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

DonnaPaola Martinez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Martinez was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.

In other batting news, Mesa Ridge got a massive performance out of Emily Hawkins, who scored three runs and stole four bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Kiana Steinhoff, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and a triple.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Mesa Ridge always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .720. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sierra only posted an OBP of .333.

Mesa Ridge is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. As for Sierra, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 8-12.

Mesa Ridge will take on Coronado at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Coronado is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.4 runs per game this season. As for Sierra, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 17-1 defeat against Elizabeth on the 3rd.
