Baseball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Rio Mesa

Rio Mesa extended their winning streak to three on Friday, bumping their season record up to 8-18-1 in the process. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Oxnard Yellowjackets, sneaking past 2-0. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 6-4 on Tuesday.

The result came thanks to Damien Valdez's shutout, as he gave up just a hit. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two hits in 13 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Isaac Pitones, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.

As for Oxnard, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-17 record this season. The loss was just more heartbreak for they who fell 6-4 when the teams previously met back in April of 2024.

On Oxnard's side, Cooper Moreau spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits.

Looking ahead, Rio Mesa will host Grace at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Oxnard, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 1-0 win against Fillmore on the 3rd.
