Softball Game Preview: Carbondale Terriers vs. Marion Wildcats

For the second straight game, Carbondale will face off against Marion. The Terriers will head out on the road to square off against the Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Carbondale 3.6, Marion 3) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Carbondale made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Marion, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Terriers fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 4-2 on Tuesday. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Terriers couldn't push the score so high this time.

Lauren Lehman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on seven hits.

On the hitting side, Carbondale saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Anniston Thompson, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Marion is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Carbondale, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season.
