Baseball Recap: Merritt Island Christian Victorious

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Merritt Island Christian had no problem doing just that on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Brevard HEAT Firehawks by a score of 9-5. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Cougars also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2024.

Jayvon Morris made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Merritt Island Christian is 4-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-7 otherwise. Morris was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Judah Alonso, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Vanslyke, who went 2-for-4 with two runs.

Merritt Island Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .541. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Merritt Island Christian's record now sits at 6-9. As for Brevard HEAT, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-15.

Merritt Island Christian didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 2-0 defeat against Master's Academy on the 17th. Brevard HEAT does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
