Baseball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Ligonier Valley

Ligonier Valley waltzed into their contest on Monday with three straight wins... but they left with four. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Southmoreland Scotties a 12-0 shutout. The matchup marked the Rams' most dominant victory of the season.

Austin Harr was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. He is becoming a predictor of Ligonier Valley's success: when he posts at least eight strikeouts the team is 2-1 (and 4-6 when he doesn't). Harr was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and two doubles. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Noah Knupp was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Duncan Foust was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one double, and one RBI.

Ligonier Valley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Southmoreland only managed three hits.

Ligonier Valley's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-7. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 3.75 runs across that stretch. As for Southmoreland, they are on an 11-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-11.

Ligonier Valley will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Scotties: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
