Baseball Game Preview: Clintondale Dragons vs. Clawson Trojans

Clintondale is 0-6 against Clawson since May of 2016 but things could change on Wednesday. The Dragons will head out on the road to face off against the Trojans at 4:30 p.m. Clintondale has given up an average of 14.5 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Clintondale is headed into Wednesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Monday. They came up short against New Haven, falling 19-3.

Clintondale saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Edward Pearson, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI. Those RBI marked the first that Pearson has brought in this season.

Meanwhile, Clawson came tearing into Monday's contest with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Vikings as they made off with a 10-2 victory. Considering the Trojans have won five games by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Shane Dunlap spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits and racked up 12 Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Clawson got a massive performance out of Elliott Groves, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Those four hits gave Groves a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Nick Therrien, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

Clawson's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-5. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games. As for Clintondale, their loss dropped their record down to 1-5.

Clintondale suffered a grim 16-1 defeat to Clawson in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Dragons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
