Basketball Recap: Liberty Comes Up Short

Liberty and Perry squared off in some playoff action on Thursday, but Liberty had to settle for second. They were outmatched by the Perry Pumas and fell 67-32. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Lions of the 74-36 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in November of 2023.

Despite the loss, Liberty saw an underclassman step up: freshman Francesca Sofia posted 16 points. Sofia's big performance that evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least 16 points.

Maci Hess continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Perry, going 10-for-17 on her way to 27 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Hess is becoming a predictor of Perry's success: when she posts at least three steals the team is 6-1 (and 9-11 when she doesn't). Another player making a difference was Elleigh Molinar, who scored nine points and six assists.

Liberty's defeat dropped their record down to 17-11. As for Perry, their win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-12.

Liberty does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Perry, they have already played their next matchup, a 63-54 loss against Hamilton on the 1st.
