The Platte Valley Broncos will take on the Forge Christian Fury at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Platte Valley comes in on five and Forge Christian on four.
Platte Valley is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They had just enough and edged out Fowler 2-1.
Dagan Gomez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits.
At the plate, Platte Valley saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hudson Flummerfelt, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Forge Christian made easy work of Highland on Friday and carried off a 9-1 victory. The Fury might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 matches by seven runs or more this season.
Ben McLean and Jonah Boykin did most of the damage at the plate: McLean got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Boykin got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Easton Wilde, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.
Forge Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .391. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .346 or higher in four consecutive contests.
Platte Valley's win bumped their record up to 18-9. As for Forge Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 23-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Platte Valley has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Forge Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Platte Valley came out on top in a nail-biter against Forge Christian in their previous meeting two weeks ago, sneaking past 2-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Broncos since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
