Preview: St. Anne-Pacelli Vikings vs. Brookstone Cougars
Two dominant backs in Cor'vee James and Lane Cannon are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. After each having a week off, the St. Anne-Pacelli Vikings and the Brookstone Cougars will dust off their jerseys to challenge one another at 7:30 p.m. on November 17th.
After a string of eight wins, St. Anne-Pacelli's good fortune finally ran out two weeks ago. They and Westfield School were almost perfectly matched up, but St. Anne-Pacelli suffered an agonizing 17-16 defeat.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from James, who rushed for 108 yards and a touchdown. James is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last eight games he's played.
Meanwhile, Brookstone put the finishing touches on their fourth blowout victory of the season two weeks ago. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Heritage 48-7 at home. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 41-0.
Brookstone got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Cannon out in front who rushed for 163 yards and two touchdowns on only 14 carries. Cannon hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Brooks Roney, who threw for 206 yards and three touchdowns while completing 100% of his passes.
St. Anne-Pacelli's defeat dropped their record down to 8-2. As for Brookstone, their victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-4.
St. Anne-Pacelli beat Brookstone 24-17 in their previous meeting back in October. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Brookstone's Cannon, who rushed for 84 yards and a touchdown.
