Two dominant backs in Matteo Tramutola and Dominic Labisi are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Voorhees Vikings will head out on the road to challenge the Governor Livingston Highlanders at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Voorhees will be strutting in after a win while Governor Livingston will be coming in after a defeat.
On Friday, Voorhees blew past North Plainfield, posting a 41-13 victory. The win continues a trend for the Vikings in their matchups with the Canucks: they've now won four in a row.
Sam Meekings had another great game (as he tends to do), throwing for 156 yards and three touchdowns.
Voorhees' defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Tramutola, Dimos Maroulis, and Jaxon Garner, who each picked up one sack apiece.
Meanwhile, Governor Livingston fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Johnson on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They were just a hair shy of victory and fell 21-20 to the Crusaders. The Highlanders' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Voorhees will have to keep a close watch on Elijah Garcia and Parker Chatfield, a pair of players who had a big impact on Governor Livingston's prior game. Garcia rushed for 82 yards and one score on only eight carries, while Chatfield picked up 21 receiving yards and one TD.
Voorhees' victory bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Governor Livingston, the defeat was their first on the road , dropping their record down to 3-3.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Saturday's matchup: Voorhees has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 394 total yards per game. It's a different story for Governor Livingston, though, as they've been averaging only 216.3 total yards. Will Voorhees be able to march up the field at their leisure again, or will the Highlanders flip the script?
Voorhees came up short against Governor Livingston when the teams last played back in October of 2024, falling 50-46. Can the Vikings avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
