Baseball Game Preview: Akron Rams vs. Burlington Cougars

Akron hasn't had much luck against Burlington recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. Akron will head out on the road to face off against Burlington at 11:00 a.m. Akron is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.

Akron proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by 17) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 victory over Yuma. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Rams have posted since April 26, 2024.

Anderson Filla spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up eight Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jax Kusel, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Tucker Stahn also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Burlington kicked off their season on the road on Friday and hit a couple of potholes. They came up short against Byers, falling 10-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Cougars have suffered since April 9, 2024.

Akron's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Burlington, their loss dropped their record down to 0-1.

Akron couldn't quite get it done against Burlington when the teams last played back in April of 2023 as they fell 7-2. Can Akron avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
