Football Recap: Red Hill's Winning Streak Snapped at Three Games

After flying high against Edwards County last Thursday, Red Hill came back down to earth. The Salukis fell 36-28 to the Christopher-Zeigler-Royalton Bearcats on Friday. The Salukis were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bearcats apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in September of 2024.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Christopher-Zeigler-Royalton to victory, but perhaps none more so than Landon Sveda, who threw for 173 yards and two touchdowns while completing 77.8% of his passes. The dominant performance also gave Sveda a new career-high in passer rating (158.6). Guage Schlake helped Sveda out on the ground, picking up 106 receiving yards and one TD.

With the defeat, Red Hill broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 4-2. As for Christopher-Zeigler-Royalton, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Red Hill will face off against Eldorado at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Christopher-Zeigler-Royalton, they will take on Carmi-White County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bearcats will be up against the Bulldogs' rather soft defense (which has allowed 33.67 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
