Baseball Game Preview: Galena Pirates vs. Lena-Winslow Panthers

Galena hasn't had much luck against Lena-Winslow recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Pirates are taking a road trip to face off against the Panthers at 4:30 p.m. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Galena sitting on four straight wins and Lena-Winslow on six.

If Galena beats Lena-Winslow with ten runs on Wednesday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. The Pirates never let West Carroll get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory on Tuesday. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by eight runs or more this season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lena-Winslow). Everything went their way against Orangeville on Tuesday as they made off with a 22-2 win. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Jaden Schubert made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Schubert was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Landon Grindey was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cohen Weegens, who went 2-for-3 with four runs and one double.

Lena-Winslow always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Galena's record is now 11-3. As for Lena-Winslow, their record now sits at 12-3-1.

Galena suffered a grim 12-5 defeat to Lena-Winslow in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Pirates avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
