Recap: La Veta Redhawks vs. Cheyenne Wells Tigers
On Saturday, La Veta was beaten by Cheyenne Wells 64-18. La Veta was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 52-18.
La Veta's loss came despite strong showings from Kade Andreatta and Jessey Montunnas. Andreatta gained 154 total yards and a touchdown, while Montunnas threw for 225 yards and a touchdown on only 16 passes.
Leading Cheyenne Wells to victory were Ethen Garay and Trey Scheler. Garay rushed for 166 yards and two touchdowns on only 13 carries, while Scheler gained 116 total yards and four touchdowns. Those 166 rushing yards set a new season-high mark for Garay. Perry Chadwick was another key contributor, throwing for 118 yards and three touchdowns while completing 100% of his passes.
Another reason for the win was Cheyenne Wells' imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. La Veta's QB won't forget Garay anytime soon given Garay sacked him five times.
La Veta's defeat dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Cheyenne Wells, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 6-5.
