Recap: Soquel Knights vs. Aptos Mariners
The Soquel Knights fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against the Aptos Mariners on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 60-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mariners. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Soquel in their matchups with Aptos: they've now lost seven in a row.
Leading Aptos to victory were Johnny Cornejo and Mateo Calfe. Cornejo scored 19 points, while Calfe scored 21 points. Those 19 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Solorio, who scored five points.
Soquel's loss dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Aptos, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-5.
Soquel will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Harbor at 7:00 p.m. on January 12th. Aptos and Scotts Valley will face off on January 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Scotts Valley will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 713th, while Aptos is ranked 283rd).
