Baseball Game Preview: Lord Botetourt Cavaliers vs. William Byrd Terriers

Lord Botetourt is preparing for their first region matchup of the season on Tuesday. They will be playing at home against the William Byrd Terriers at 5:30 p.m. Lord Botetourt is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.

Lord Botetourt's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 19-0 margin over Heritage. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Cavaliers considering their two-run performance the match before.

Brady Kish made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Gavin Walker was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with six RBI, three runs, and one triple. Those six RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaac Nichols, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Lord Botetourt always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Meanwhile, William Byrd was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They lost 14-7 to Hidden Valley. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last seven times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Lord Botetourt's victory bumped their record up to 5-3. As for William Byrd, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.

Lord Botetourt might still be hurting after the 11-4 loss they got from William Byrd in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Cavaliers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
