Preview: Rivercrest Rebels vs. Boles Hornets
The Rivercrest Rebels will be playing in front of their home fans against the Boles Hornets at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
Rivercrest's recent rough patch got a bit rougher two weeks ago after their third straight loss. They took a 26-20 hit to the loss column at the hands of Alba-Golden.
Despite the defeat, Rivercrest had strong showings from Connor Herring, who picked up 80 receiving yards and two touchdowns, and Jaquan Brown, who rushed for 106 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Boles was beaten by Wolfe City 45-7 on Friday. Boles was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 45-0.
Rivercrest's loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 2-6. The slump could be explained by some tough opposition over that stretch, namely Alba-Golden, Honey Grove, and Cooper. As for Boles, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season.
Rivercrest beat Boles 27-14 in their previous matchup back in October of 2022. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Boles' Gabriel Drennan, who rushed for 157 yards and a touchdown. Now that he won't be playing on Thursday, will it be that much easier for Rivercrest to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
