Basketball Recap: Simeon Wolverines vs. Rich Township Raptors
The Simeon Wolverines lost against the Rich Township Raptors back in December of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The game between Simeon and the Raptors wasn't particularly close, with the Wolverines falling 52-34. While losing is never fun, Simeon can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 308th, while the Raptors are ranked 137th).
Simeon's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mariyah Robinson, who scored five points along with six rebounds and five steals. Another player making a difference was Dijiona Berrien, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds and three blocks.
Simeon's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-12. As for Rich Township, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 19-9.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Simeon will take on the Mighty Macs at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The timing is sure in Mother McAuley's favor as the squad sits on 11 straight wins at home while the Wolverines have been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road. As for Rich Township, they will square off against the Kays at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Kankakee knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matches -- so hopefully the Raptors like a good challenge.
