League recap: Lake Mills scores huge upset over Belmond-Klemme

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Lake Mills, who took down 161st ranked Belmond-Klemme, 41-0.

The Bulldogs moved up to 165 from 203 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in A District 2. Lake Mills was able to make the jump by beating the Broncos 41-0.

Newman Catholic's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Jack Fitzgerald threw for 108 yards and Trystan Mariner had 38 yards receiving. On the ground Joe Burgmeier chipped in 156 yards. Casey Hall helped Newman Catholic's passing attack out by catching two balls for 27 yards.

Jasson Woods made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Knights defeated Prairie Valley. The 5-foot-9 junior grabbed one sack.

Newman Catholic's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Knights feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Fitzgerald has thrown for 186 yards this season, while Spencer Schmidt has two catches for 91 yards. Burgmeier leads the league in rushing with 648 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when AGWSR takes on Newman Catholic. The Cougars are currently in second, while Mike Dirksen's team is in fourth.

The Knights were the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from seventh to fourth in A District 2. Earlier in the week, Newman Catholic defeated the Warriors 28-6.
