Softball Recap: Philomath Warriors vs. Sweet Home Huskies
Philomath fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Sweet Home on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Huskies by a score of 11-10. The Warriors were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Huskies earlier this season, when they won 9-3.

Hailey Smith was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over ten innings while giving up seven earned (and three unearned) runs off 15 hits. Smith was even better at the plate, going 3-for-5 with one home run and three RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now got three or more in each of the last three games she's played.
In other batting news, Libby Kramer was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Kaylie Kohler, who went 3-for-6 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.
Philomath's loss dropped their record down to 9-9. As for Sweet Home, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 13-6.
Looking ahead, Philomath will head out on the road to face off against Stayton at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Sweet Home, they will square off against Cascade at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Huskies' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cougars have averaged an impressive 13 runs per game this season.
