Baseball Recap: Pike Victorious

Pike's game last Wednesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Greenwood Christian Academy Cougars an 8-0 shutout. For the Red Devils, this counts as revenge for the 14-2 win the Cougars walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Jimquell Young, Jr and Lincoln Sigmund made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Young, Jr tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Sigmund didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. At bat, Young, Jr got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run, while Sigmund went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those two doubles gave Young, Jr a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Rory Weaver, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024.

Pike now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Greenwood Christian Academy, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 8-8.

Looking ahead, Pike will face off against Lawrence Central at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Greenwood Christian Academy, they will take on Greenwood at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
