Basketball Recap: Rylee Hedrick's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Carson over East Rowan

Carson lost against East Rowan back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Carson Cougars took a 58-44 bruising from the East Rowan Mustangs. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 532nd, while the Mustangs are ranked 156th).

Several Cougars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Rylee Hedrick, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 boards. Hedrick has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Allie Martin, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 boards.

Even though they lost, Carson smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 11 consecutive contests.

Carson has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-16 record this season. As for East Rowan, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 16-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Carson will host Robinson at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Robinson will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something Carson surely won't give up without a fight. East Rowan has already played their next game (against South Rowan), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
