Basketball Game Preview: Sedgwick County Cougars vs. Haxtun Fightin' Bulldogs

The Sedgwick County Cougars will venture away from home to face off against the Haxtun Fightin' Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Sedgwick County has 11 straight wins, Haxtun has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Sedgwick County is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They strolled past Burlington with points to spare on Saturday, taking the game 67-51.

Sedgwick County can attribute much of their success to Lainee Nein, who shot 5-for-5 from downtown and dropped a double-double with 21 points and 13 boards, and Abigail Dille, who went 8-for-16 to rack up 23 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. The match was Dille's third in a row with at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryen Carlson, who posted six points.

Meanwhile, Haxtun fought the good fight in their overtime game against Caliche on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 58-51 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Buffaloes.

Sedgwick County pushed their record up to 14-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.0 points over those games. As for Haxtun, their loss dropped their record down to 8-11.

Everything came up roses for Sedgwick County against Haxtun in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, as the squad secured a 50-20 win. Does Sedgwick County have another victory up their sleeve, or will Haxtun turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
