Basketball Recap: Weldon Comes Up Short

Weldon and North Duplin squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but Weldon had to settle for second. They were dealt a 59-20 loss at the hands of the North Duplin Rebels. While losing is never fun, the Chargers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 412th, while the Rebels are ranked 182nd).

North Duplin got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Addy Higginbotham out in front who posted 11 points along with five assists and four steals. Higginbotham has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last nine times she's played. Tateyawna Faison was another key player, dropping a double-double with 13 points and 11 boards.

Weldon's defeat dropped their record down to 10-9. As for North Duplin, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 22-4.

Weldon does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for North Duplin, they will challenge Gates County on Friday. North Duplin is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.4 points per game this season.
