Basketball Recap: Payne Tech Comes Up Short

Payne Tech lost against Seton Hall Prep back in February of 2021 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Payne Tech Lions took a 63-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Seton Hall Prep Pirates. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey basketball rankings (they are ranked 140th, while the Pirates are ranked 17th).

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Seton Hall Prep to victory, but perhaps none more so than Alex Ante, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. That's the most rebounds Ante has posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Dylan Guzzardo, who posted 15 points.

Payne Tech has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season. As for Seton Hall Prep, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-1.

A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Payne Tech Lions face off against the Columbia Cougars at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Seton Hall Prep, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 71-55 victory against East Orange Campus on the 9th.
