Baseball Recap: North Central Thunderbirds vs. White River Valley Wolverines
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only North Central walked away with it. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the White River Valley Wolverines a 10-0 shutout on Thursday. The Thunderbirds not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 28th (when they won 14-4).
Lane Phegley made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 17 over seven innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because North Central is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-14 otherwise. Phegley was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Colton Taylor was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Greydyn Walters, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
North Central's victory bumped their record up to 6-14. As for White River Valley, they are on a 30-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-15.
Looking ahead, North Central will take on Clay City at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Eels' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Thunderbirds' hitters will have their work cut out for them. White River Valley does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
