The Strathmore Spartans are taking a road trip to take on the Woodlake Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
While Strathmore's win against Laton wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Spartans' pitchers stepped up to hand the Mustangs a 1-0 shutout on Monday. The Spartans haven't had any issues with the Mustangs recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Meanwhile, Woodlake's rock-solid pitcher showed up for the team's third consecutive shutout on Tuesday. They didn't even let Lindsay on the board, marking the Tigers' second-straight 10-0 shutout. Considering the Tigers have won four contests by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Guillermo Rosales was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. That double marked the first that he hit this season.
In other batting news, Connor Bates was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. David Flores was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Woodlake is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Strathmore, their record now sits at 4-7-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Strathmore has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 7.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Woodlake struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Strathmore came up short against Woodlake when the teams last played back in May of 2024, falling 5-2. Can the Spartans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
