Baseball Game Preview: Grant Union Prospectors vs. Irrigon Knights

The Grant Union Prospectors will head out to challenge the Irrigon Knights at 1:00 p.m. on Friday.

On Tuesday, Grant Union didn't have quite enough to beat Heppner/Ione and fell 10-9. The Prospectors haven't had much luck with the Mustangs recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Meanwhile, Irrigon was not the first on the board on Tuesday, but they got there more often. They walked away with an 11-8 win over Sherman. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Knights.

The team relied heavily on Brock Locey, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Bennette Atkins was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Irrigon pushed their record up to 11-5 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.2 runs over those games. As for Grant Union, their loss dropped their record down to 10-9.

Grant Union took their victory against Irrigon when the teams last played back in April of 2015 by a conclusive 16-6 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Prospectors since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
