Basketball Game Preview: Southwest Eagles vs. Westwood Christian Warriors

The Southwest Eagles and the Westwood Christian Warriors will face off at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday without much rest having both just played.

On Monday, Southwest lost to St. Brendan on the road by a 69-53 margin. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 540th, while the Sabres are ranked 83rd).

Meanwhile, Westwood Christian blew past Coral Reef, posting a 76-45 victory. The Warriors have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matches by 22 points or more this season.

Westwood Christian's win came from a few key players Southwest will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Jason Martinez, who went 7 for 11 en route to 19 points and eight boards. His evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Tristen Barnes, who went 6 of 10 on his way to 17 points along with seven rebounds and five assists.

Westwood Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Westwood Christian's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-7. As for Southwest, they have also traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-12 record this season.

Southwest couldn't quite finish off Westwood Christian when the teams last played back in November of 2023 and fell 62-60. Can Southwest avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
