Basketball Recap: Gibsonburg Comes Up Short

After flying high against Woodmore last Saturday, Gibsonburg came back down to earth. The Gibsonburg Golden Bears fell to the New Riegel Blue Jackets 60-55. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Blue Jackets this season, with their most recent defeat being a 55-49 loss back in January.

Despite the loss, Gibsonburg saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Reece Walby went 5-for-7 on his way to 19 points and five rebounds. What's more, Walby also posted a 71% field goal percentage, which is the highest he's achieved since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Camden Mooney, who posted nine points and six assists.

Gibsonburg's defeat dropped their record down to 15-8. As for New Riegel, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season.

Gibsonburg does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for New Riegel, they will face off against Old Fort at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Old Fort's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five games.
