Preview: Flowers Jaguars vs. Eleanor Roosevelt Raiders
Flowers is on a 13-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Eleanor Roosevelt is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Flowers Jaguars will take on the Eleanor Roosevelt Raiders at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
With a playoff game on the line, Flowers rose to the challenge on Friday. They breezed by Bladensburg at home to the tune of 63-0. Given Flowers' advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland football rankings (they are ranked 40th, while Bladensburg is ranked 175th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Joshua Jefferson was on fire: he rushed for 128 yards and three touchdowns on only six carries. Jefferson was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 57 yards. Another big playmaker for Flowers was Braydon Lee, who returned a punt for a touchdown.
Meanwhile, while Eleanor Roosevelt put up plenty of points on Saturday, the same can't be said for Parkdale. Eleanor Roosevelt took their match at home with ease, bagging a 35-0 victory over Parkdale. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as Eleanor Roosevelt just coasted through the last quarter.
Eleanor Roosevelt got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Kamal Ali out in front who threw for 170 yards and two touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Donte Howard was another key contributor, rushing for 97 yards and a touchdown on only ten carries.
Their wins bumped Flowers to 9-1 and Eleanor Roosevelt to 8-2.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's game: Flowers has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 207.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Eleanor Roosevelt struggles in that department as they've been averaging 167.5 per game. It's looking like Friday's match might have some serious battles in the trenches. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
