Baseball Recap: Columbia Victorious

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Tulpehocken, Columbia was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They won by a run and slipped past the Pequea Valley Braves 3-2. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Crimson Tide as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Peyton Gilbert spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up 14 Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Columbia's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Cameron McClair, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. Drew Paules was another, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

The victory got Columbia back to even at 8-8. As for Pequea Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-10.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Columbia will head out to take on Lancaster Mennonite at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The Blazers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.14 runs per game on average), something the Crimson Tide will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Pequea Valley, they are taking a road trip to square off against Northern Lebanon at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
