Softball Game Preview: Haywood Tomcats vs. Bolivar Central Tigers

The Haywood Tomcats will face off against the Bolivar Central Tigers at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Haywood's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They put the hurt on Fayette Ware with a sharp 13-0 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Tomcats.

Lillian Scott made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over four innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Haywood let Karly Young and Averie Parnell run wild. Young went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double, while Parnell went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Myahil Boyd, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Haywood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .846. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Bolivar Central challenged Fayette Ware on Monday. The Tigers were the clear victors by a 17-2 margin over the Wildcats.

Haywood pushed their record up to 11-4 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Bolivar Central, their record now sits at 9-4.

Haywood beat Bolivar Central 7-4 in their previous matchup two weeks ago. Do the Tomcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
