Basketball Recap: Warrensburg Comes Up Short

Warrensburg played a tough matchup on Saturday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by the Granville Golden Horde and fell 88-34. While losing is never fun, the Burgers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 905th, while the Golden Horde are ranked 355th).

Despite the loss, Warrensburg still got an impressive performance from Owen Jones, who posted 14 points. That was a full 41.2% of Warrensburg's points, marking the eighth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.

Granville had a senior duo take command as Matthew Valadka went 13 of 21 to rack up 32 points and eight steals and Liam Farrell dropped a double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Valadka has scored all season. Camden Woodruff also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assists of the season.

Warrensburg's loss was their eighth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-14. As for Granville, the victory (which was their 11th in a row) raised their record to 12-6.

Warrensburg wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 69-55 defeat against Hadley Luzerne on the 11th. As for Granville, they will face off against Corinth at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Granville knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 12 contests -- so hopefully Corinth likes a good challenge.
