Basketball Recap: New Covenant Christian Takes a Loss

New Covenant Christian was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were beaten by the Benavides Eagles 53-20.

Despite the defeat, New Covenant Christian saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Levi Osorio posted eight points along with 12 boards and four steals. That was a full 40% of New Covenant Christian's points, marking the third time in a row he's had more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Miles Charping, who put up five points and seven rebounds.

Even though they lost, New Covenant Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in three consecutive games.

New Covenant Christian's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Benavides, their win ended a seven-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-3.

New Covenant Christian will head out on the road to face off against Macedonian Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Benavides, they will welcome Lasara at 6:30 p.m. on December 20th.
