Basketball Recap: Matthew Martinez's Big Game Can't Quite Lead West Broward over Cypress Bay

If West Broward was riding high fresh off their 68-40 takedown of Pompano Beach last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The West Broward Bobcats came up short against the Cypress Bay Lightning on Monday, falling 77-51. The Bobcats have struggled against the Lightning recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Several Bobcats players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Matthew Martinez, who went 7 for 13 on his way to 18 points and six boards. Another player making a difference was Alvin Albert -Viala, who went 6 of 9 en route to 14 points.

Even though they lost, West Broward was working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2023.

West Broward's loss dropped their record down to 5-11. As for Cypress Bay, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-9.

A feisty cat fight is on tap when the West Broward Bobcats challenge the Somerset Academy Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. West Broward is facing Somerset Academy at the right time seeing as Somerset Academy is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Cypress Bay, they will take on Taravella on February 5th.
