Volleyball Game Preview: Chugiak Mustangs vs. Bettye Davis East Anchorage Thunderbirds + How To Watch

The Chugiak Mustangs will head out to challenge the Bettye Davis East Anchorage Thunderbirds at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Chugiak is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Alaska's top teams: West Anchorage, who was ranked 24th at the time (Chugiak was ranked third). The Mustangs were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over the Eagles on Tuesday. The Mustangs not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since September 3rd (when they won 3-0).

Chugiak found their leader in sophomore Kinley Jo Adams, who had six digs and four aces.

Chugiak was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 17 aces. That's the most aces they've posted since back in November of 2024.

Eagle River typically has all the answers at home, but on Tuesday Bettye Davis East Anchorage proved too difficult a challenge. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over the Wolves. The win was nothing new for the Thunderbirds as they're now sitting on three straight.

Bettye Davis East Anchorage's victory bumped their record up to 9-11. As for Chugiak, their win bumped their record up to 17-9.

Chugiak skirted past Bettye Davis East Anchorage 1-0 in their previous meeting back in August. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
