Football Recap: Tony Tanner's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Dunnellon over Eastside

Dunnellon lost against Eastside back in October of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Tigers fell just short of the Rams by a score of 16-14. While the Tigers had to settle for second, they closed the game well in the third quarter, where they outscored the Rams 6-0.

Dunnellon's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tony Tanner, who picked up 60 receiving yards and one score, and also rushed for 61 yards. Tanner didn't just play on offense: he also made ten total tackles (1.0 for loss) and defended one pass.

This is the second loss in a row for Dunnellon and nudges their season record down to 2-4. As for Eastside, their record now sits at 4-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Dunnellon will square off against Specially Fit Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Rams' defense has only allowed 13.8 points per game this season, so the Tigers' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Eastside, after each having a week off, they and South Sumter will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:30 p.m. on the 10th. The Raiders will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Rams surely won't give up without a fight.
