Softball Recap: Spencer County Comes Up Short

After flying high against Cornerstone Christian Academy on Friday, Spencer County came back down to earth. The Bears fell just short of the Shelby County Rockets by a score of 10-8 on Sunday. The Bears haven't had much luck with the Rockets recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Annalee Wood was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she struck out seven batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off five hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in ten consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Spencer County saw nine different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Madi Walker, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. Walker has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last three times she's played. Layla Maraman was another, going 2-for-5 with one run and one RBI.

Spencer County now has a losing record of 16-17. As for Shelby County, the victory got them back to even at 13-13.

As of now, neither Spencer County nor the Rockets have any future games scheduled.
