Basketball Recap: Newark Central's Win Ends Five-Game Losing Streak at Home

Newark Central fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back victories it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They walked away with a 52-44 win over the Beloved Community Charter Owls on Saturday.

Newark Central's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Drean Aikins, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Aikins has scored at least a third of Newark Central's points. Yam'Bya Ndaw was another key player, putting up six points along with 11 blocks and seven boards.

Newark Central was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in January of 2024.

Newark Central's win ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-11. As for Beloved Community Charter, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Newark Central has already played their next matchup (against Marion P. Thomas), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Beloved Community Charter will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Ferris at 4:30 p.m. on February 6th.
