Basketball Recap: Midland Legacy Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Ja'varion Starling and Diego Rodriguez

Midland Legacy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 70-65 heartbreaker at the hands of the Odessa Bronchos. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (60), the Rebels still had to take the loss.

Midland Legacy's loss came despite strong showings from Diego Rodriguez and Ja'Varion Starling. Rodriguez went 6 for 12 on his way to 18 points and six boards, while Starling went 5 of 6 en route to 12 points. That's the most points Starling has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Tristine Turner, who posted six points.

Midland Legacy's defeat dropped their record down to 16-11. As for Odessa, with the victory, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 13-16.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Midland Legacy will square off against Permian at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Midland Legacy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.1 points per game this season. As for Odessa, they will welcome San Angelo Central at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Odessa has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
