Football Game Preview: Blue Springs Wildcats vs. Rock Bridge Bruins

The Blue Springs Wildcats will welcome the Rock Bridge Bruins at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Blue Springs will bounce into Friday's contest after beating Liberty North, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. The Wildcats came out on top against the Eagles by a score of 27-14 on Friday.

Corey Mayfield had a dynamite game, rushing for 141 yards and a pair of scores on only 12 carries. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in rushing touchdowns (two). Another player making a difference was Wyatt Erickson, who threw for 126 yards and one TD while completing 75% of his passes.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Blue Springs was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 221 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Rock Bridge, who bounced back after a loss on the road two weeks ago. They took down Howell 38-21 on Friday. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Bruins considering their ten-point performance the matchup before.

Rock Bridge has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 10.3 points on average over those games. As for Blue Springs, their record now sits at 6-3.

Blue Springs beat Rock Bridge 17-10 in their previous matchup back in November of 2019. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bruins turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
