Basketball Recap: Luray Takes a Loss

Luray lost against Clarke County back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Luray Bulldogs had to suffer through a 58-24 loss at the hands of the Clarke County Eagles. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 264th, while the Eagles are ranked 77th).

Clarke County was led to victory by Alainah Mckavish and Paige Stemberger. Mckavish dropped a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds, while Stemberger went 7-for-11 to rack up 15 points along with five assists and five steals. Mckavish's evening made it seven games in a row in which she has scored at least 17 points. Paige Mckavish was another key player, putting up seven points and three steals.

This is the second loss in a row for Luray and nudges their season record down to 7-11. As for Clarke County, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season.

Luray wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 54-43 defeat against Rappahannock County on the 8th. As for Clarke County, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 60-32 victory against Madison County on the 10th.
